3D  Printing Wash Station

Creating a custom enclosure

In short

Building a 3D printing wash station for SpectroPlast's new 3D printing Silicone technology

What we did

Industrial Design

Design for Manufacture

Prototyping

Client

SpectroPlast

Finished on

February 2020

But first....

Where it began

Sometimes where you start the project. Isn't where you end up.

We began the project designing a large enclosure.

We thought it was pretty cool...

Detailed design

We got it ready for prototyping

We had to make sure the product works!

Prototyped

Testing..

We prototyped the majority of the parts using MJF Nylon 3D printing with a black die.

After putting everything together and shipping to the client.

We both realised the design was to complicated for the functionality.

So we overhauled the entire design, and stripped everything that didn't need to be there.

Finally

Where we ended

After recalibrating our priorities. aka the customer.

We found a design that functioned and was half the part count.

Great victory for product costing.

Lesson learnt

No fluff

At the end of the day. The customer wants a product that does the job.

Extras just add more cost to the business with no extra value to the end customer.
