A personal story
Is it worth it?
I designed a range of fishing lures about 8 years ago. My friends and I were catching amazing fish on them and I thought it would be incredible to turn this into a business. My dreams were put into perspective when I worked out how many lures I needed to sell to make a decent living. Spoiler, it was a lot of lures and I would be manufacturing them for 12 hours a day. At this point, I had to weigh up the effort it would take to make a living off of my lures versus continuing to be a product developer. As you can tell, I stuck with my day job, and make lures as a hobby. For me understanding the effort versus reward was a crucial step in deciding to pursue the new business or not. Everyone has different objectives, I didn't want to spend 12 hours a day manufacturing, but someone else might love that idea. The point is finding out before it's too late. We encourage everyone to understand everything possible about their product idea before spending all your time and money.
